Whenever I travel, for work or for pleasure, I always do a little venue scouting. I talk to locals to find out about new places and the spots you shouldn’t miss. The charming city of Zurich has some wonderful terraces and a few lovely rooftops. My favourite is Rooftop Restaurant on Bahnhofstrasse. This bar and restaurant sits on the top floor of the Modissa building, a well-known Zurich fashion address. The venue isn’t new, but I finally decided to stop by recently. I’m glad I did!
The interior is carefully designed, combining copper with unfinished wood. The music is enjoyable too, especially when the DJ plays house classics.
But the real highlight is the food and drinks. The cocktails are excellent and made by properly trained mixologists. My favourite is the Moscow Mule. The food menu offers modern Asian-influenced small plates to share. The venue is known for its dumplings served in bamboo baskets and drinks featuring sake or Nikka.
The view isn’t quite as beautiful as the one from the terrace at Haute — I’ll come back to that private club in a future post — which overlooks the lake. But people mainly come here for the cocktails and the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere after work.
Event producer tip: the venue can be hired privately for up to 90 guests comfortably, subject to a minimum spend in line with Zurich prices.
